This is my second entry (we’re allowed five this year) to the Renderosity annual holiday art contest and a total redux of an artwork I created in 2018. My old version used Victoria 4 and the Firefly render engine. Now I’ve recreated the artwork from scratch with La Femme 2 and the Superfly render engine. I reused some of the same props (like the snow globe and the Holly Candle) but updated them all with Superfly shaders. I wasn’t 100% confident in this artwork and nearly tossed it until my very good friends Stephanie and Sally told me how much they loved it. Now I’m really happy with it!
Technical Notes

As mentioned above, I rendered this artwork with the Superfly render engine in Poser 13. All materials of all scene elements were updated with Superfly shaders. Most of the lighting comes from the emission shaders on the candle flame and the fire in the fireplace plus I added two area lights to brighten things up just a bit more. I hid the original flame model from the Holly Candle and fireplace and replaced them with realistic fire effects props. I even added a snowflake transparency map to the little flake props inside the snow globe so they wouldn’t look like plain squares. I then rendered the scene with depth of field on and then took the render into Photoshop. In Photoshop I added a slight glow to the candle flame along with a faint smoke trail. After that, I took the image into Lightroom for some final adjustments.
