Essential Starfield Mods: Creations
Creations is Bethesda’s official channel for mods which has mods available for free but also for purchase using “Credits”. I’ll be listing both types of mods below, but they will be clearly marked. These are all to be installed while in the game from the Creations menu. Remember that you can go to the website and shop for mods then “bookmark” them to download later when you’re in-game. After I download new Creations, I then exit the game and go to Vortex (which I told you about here) and with that use LOOT to sort the load order and then restart the game and play with my new goodies. And now, the mods. Oh yeah, this does not include new quest DLC. I’ll be writing a separate post for those.
Stroud Premium Edition – Awesomeness for Ship Builders
This mod adds a load of new ship modules for you to build a complete and awesome new ship. The habs are wonderfully decorated and everything looks great. Ever since I got this mod, I’ve been using it almost exclusively for building my ships. It even adds a new location to New Atlantis! Check it out, you won’t be disappointed and, it’s free! Remember to check out the compatibility patches for use with other mods including the patch for Place Doors Yourself (main mod listed below) so that you can use everything together seamlessly.
Place Doors Yourself – No More Weird Door or Ladder Placements
Magnetic Weapon Holsters – Show Sidearms with Style
This mod adds a few types of sidearm holsters to the game that, when added to your character, will show the currently loaded sidearm weapon on the holster. I like it as it adds immersion and just looks cool. It includes a couple styles of holsters that will stack on top of your outfits along with some full pants with holsters that will also combine with most outfits including those Modular Constellation outfits I talked about in my Nexus Mods post. Again, make sure you download any patches for other mods or DLC that you have including the patches for Shattered Space, Free Lanes, and Terran Armada if you have those.
Enhance! Mirror – Free & Convenient Look Changes
This mod adds a new object, the Enhance! Mirror (found in Decorations sort), that you can place on your ship or in your homes and outposts. When you click on the mirror, you can update your looks exactly as if you were visiting an Enhance! but without the cost! I usually place one in the Captain’s Quarters of my ship just in case I get sick of how my character looks so I can change things up on the fly without having to find the local Enhance! shop.
Enhance! Companions – Change the Look of Your Companions
Is there something you don’t like about the look of your companions (like Sam Coe’s hair)? Now when you go to an Enhance! you will have two options to either Enhance! yourself or whichever companion you have with you. It still will cost you 500 credits either way.
Mini-Cutter Laser Weapon – A Cutter with Some Teeth
First off, this mod will cost you 300 Creations Credits, but it’s been worth it to me. This mod makes a new Mining Cutter that is about half the size and can be held with one hand, but that’s not all. It can be upgraded into a truly powerful weapon or just to speed up cutting those minerals out. Also, it has new cosmetic skins if you want your mini-cutter to look different and they can also be used on the original mining cutter! The mini-cutter can even be customized with different laser colors which is pretty cool. It may not have been a free mod, but I really like this one. I wish the mini-cutters didn’t cost so much in-game for your character though. Luckily, you can sometimes find a mini-cutter when looting the corpse of unlucky miners.
No Hat for Sam Coe – No More Stupid Hat
I like Sam Coe, but I do not like his stupid hat or his mullet. So, I get rid of those with this mod and the Enhance! Companions mod mentioned above. This mod doesn’t need you to do anything to activate it; once installed it just deletes his hat automatically. Just make sure you install this before meeting him, I think. I don’t know if it works if you install after meeting him so that’s up to you to try if you want to.
Deimog – A Cool New Vehicle
This is a new vehicle for your game that was made by Bethesda itself and is completely free. I prefer it over the REV-8 because it has heavier armer and a more powerful gun. It’s free so you might as well try it out, right? You only have to pay for a ground vehicle once in the game. Basically, you’re buying ground vehicle access and can then choose and switch to whichever of the vehicles that are available. Oh, if you downloaded the Stroud Premium Edition mod mentioned above, make sure you download the Deimog Compatibility Patch for a cool new ship hab module!
Furnished Starborn Ship – No More Emptiness (In the Ship)
Truth be told, I usually ditch my Starborn ship within minutes of landing in New Atlantis. That said, if I did keep it, I would need this mod. I did use it for a while, which is why I feel it needs to be listed here, and it is very nice. It uses Starborn-like assets to decorate the interior of the ship so it no longer feels so empty or with out of place normal ship assets.
Mercury Tower Penthouse Furnished Remade – Decorated At Last
I’ll be honest, I hate decorating all of those empty homes and ships which is why I love any mod that does it for me. This mod will furnish the penthouse in New Atlantis that you get after the Vanguard mission is successfully completed. The modder did a great job at it too. Now it can feel like a real home without me spending six hours trying to make it look like one… and failing.
Akila The Core Furnished & Expanded – Another Full Decor Mod
Like the above mod, this one decorates for you the Core Home in Akila and does a really great job at it. There are other similar mods for the other player homes, but I am only listing the ones I actually use. I like this one because it keeps the rustic feel of Akila in the home without looking tacky.
Var’uun’kai Dazra Furnished Home – Great Serpent Approved
This is the third and last of the fully decorated home mods that I use. This one does a great job of decorating the home in Dazra that you get at the end of the main Shattered Space quest. It uses all Var’uun style assets to keep the right theme in the home too.
That’s all for now. Don’t forget to exit the game once you install these and go back to Vortex to sort the load order then deploy all of the mods. You can also sort the load order manually in the game while in the Creations section. I don’t, too much trouble that I need not concern myself with unless I run into a game issue. So far, I’ve only had one game issue due to load order, and it was super easy to rectify with Vortex.
