This is an idea I’ve had for a long time. I’m not sure how this idea came to me, I just know I’ve had it for a long time. I wasn’t sure exactly what I’d have once I finished but I started with the basic idea of a desperate girl in an hourglass as sand poured down. Everything else about the piece came about as I was creating it and I rather like how it turned out.
Technical Notes

The hourglass prop is one I bought from CGTrader and imported as an OBJ. After applying some Superfly shaders to it, I scaled it to just the right size to put La Femme in it. I used my Angie character and a set of clothing textures I made a while back and have used a few times in the past. The clothing is dynamic, so I had to calculate the dynamics of the skirt and then the top to get it layered correctly. The lighting is very basic. Two soft infinite lights to light up the scenery and then one small area light inside the hourglass to give more light to the figure. The sand looked very basic so, in postwork, I used some sand brushes to enhance the falling sand and some of the sand near the glass. I then used about seven PS actions to play around with the colors and contrast in creative ways. Finally, I took the image into Lightroom and further tweaked it until I got something I liked.
