This is yet another scene that I nearly tossed out but, in the end, decided to keep working on until I created something that I liked. I’ve had this idea in my “notebook of ideas” for quite a while and my first few tries at it looked awful… thus why I nearly trashed it. Luckily, I forced myself to keep working on it and tweaking it by adding each detail one at a time and trying not to limit myself in any respect. (i.e., “I can’t have that many extra characters in the scene… wait, YES I CAN!” Somehow, I made it all work. This is also my first artwork to feature my newest character, Olivia. (Coming soon to the Renderosity Marketplace, I hope.)
Technical Notes

This was a fun scene to figure out the lighting for. I created a very soft point light to work as the main light to illuminate the entire room. I then created a wide spotlight that focuses on the piano and pianist then a narrower, brighter spotlight on the singer. The singer’s gown is dynamic cloth with a new texture and shader by me using the included transparency map. I updated nearly every material in the scene with improved Superfly shaders as this is an older setting and had less than impressive default materials. In postwork, I enhanced the glows of each candle with a brush and layer style. I then used a couple actions and some additional adjustment layers to increase the focus on the background while darkening the foreground even more while also adjusting the colors of the entire piece.
