A New Friend

This scene was rendered in Superfly with only two traditional lights and an all-encompassing IDL sphere with a green/brown mottled texture to match the forest setting. The background beyond the trees is actually a 2D prop. I decided against using depth of field since the scene is so close-up and it just looks better to me this way. The gown on the princess is dynamic cloth and to make sure it draped properly; I used 60 frames rather than the default 30 frames to give it enough time to drape all the way down and. On the little unicorn, I had to change its mane and tail hair skinning to Poser Unimesh so I could enhance the subdivision then turned it all the way up to a value of 4 on each. Due to the transparency issues with the mane and tail, high values for the min and max transparency bounces in my render settings were required to prevent any dark splotches. In postwork I used a couple Photoshop actions to play with the color and contrast then a few more adjustment layers to further enhance the image. I then added a vignette effect and used a green textured image as a new layer set to “soft light” with a low opacity as an overlay to give it a little more color and texture.
