Marvelous

I have no idea why I created this while having a light-sensitive headache (and a really bad one at that) so looking at that bright sunflare actually hurt my eyes quite a bit. Still, it looks cool and it’s part of the theme of the piece, so I kept it in and worked on it until it looked the way I wanted it to. I really liked the Captain Marvel movie ever since I saw it in the theater (that “I have nothing to prove to you” scene was just sooo badass) so I’ve been wanting to create something like this for quite a while. I couldn’t find nor create a good enough movie-style version of her uniform but I did find this comic book version and it will have to do. Overall, I like how this turned out and I hope I can come up with more ideas for more Captain Marvel art.

I have to reskin both V4 and all of the Captain Marvel suit to Unimesh so I could use subdivision on everything and thus get smoother details on everything. I used a PBR shader on her suit and its elements to give it a more metallic look. The entire scene was rendered in Superfly via Poser 12 with a light set that came with the setting (DM’s Port Horizon). In postwork, I painted over Captain Marvel with a soft brush and a solid gold color on a new layer then switched the layer mode to color dodge. I then duplicated that layer and set the duplicate to linier dodge and adjust the opacity of both until I got the look I was going for. I then used the ON1 Effects plugin to add the sunflare and bokeh effects to the artwork. I then decided to paint some more gold onto her eyes with a soft brush on a new layer set to linier doge to give her the glowing eyes effect. After that, I took the scene into Lightroom and adjusted the colors and contrast until I got the artwork you see here.
