Using Dynamic Cloth from Poser 13 in Poser 14
This tutorial will show you how to be able to currently render with dynamic cloth in Poser 14 which does not yet have a native Cloth Room. Although I indicate using Poser 13 in this tutorial, Poser 12 will also suffice. It has not been tested in Poser 11 Pro, but it should work in it too.
Step 1
First, in Poser 14, create your scene and load your chosen figure that you wish to use the dynamic cloth with. Load the dynamic cloth you want to use and make sure it fits on the figure. This is important: parent the dynamic cloth object to the figure! Now pose the figure as desired and save the scene file.
Step 2
Now open Poser 13 (or earlier), then open the scene file you saved in Poser 14. Don’t worry about the “newer Poser version than expected” warning. Just click OK and continue. Now, before we go any further, save your scene as a new file. (For instance, my original scene file was named “Scene 1.pz3”. Now I will Save As a new “Scene 1 – dynamics.pz3”.)
Step 3
Click on your figure’s Body then go to the animation controls. Go to Frame 15. Add a key frame here. (See screenshot.) After that, go back to Frame 1 and set your figure to a zero pose or use “Restore Figure” under the Edit menu. Now save the file. You can now clothify your dynamic cloth object and calculate the simulation as usual in the Cloth Room.
Step 4
Once the simulation is finished in the Cloth Room, go back to the Pose Room. In case you missed this step somehow, make sure the dynamic cloth object is parented to your figure! With your dynamic cloth object selected on your final simulation frame, go to the Object menu then to Spawn Morph Target… and name the morph whatever you want. I named mine “Morph”. (You can save your scene again just to be safe.)
Step 5
Go to your Libraries and then to the Props Library. With your dynamic cloth object still selected, save your parented prop to the Library. When it asks if you want to save it as a Smart Prop, click Yes. Now exit Poser 13.
Step 6
Using your original scene file (my scene 1.pz3) delete the original dynamic cloth object from the figure. Now go to your Props Library and load the smart prop you created in Poser 13 to the figure. On the Parameters Tab of the prop, set the Morph you created earlier to a value of 1. Your dynamic cloth object should now have loaded onto the figure and look like the fully calculated object from Poser 13. Your work is now complete.
