Companions

This is a redux of an artwork I originally came up with in 2020. I wanted to do it over again and improve it because I knew I could do better, and I wanted to do it better before I had it printed and framed on my wall. I just changed a few things like an improved hair model, a different LF character, better materials, better lighting, and clearer postwork. I think I altered the Goffin’s pose a bit too. I’m so pleased with how this turned out. 

Here is what I wrote for the original version in 2020:
I’ve created a lot of personal artworks over the years including some that portray deep feelings and/or aspects of my illness and yet few have made me actually cry during their creation. This is one of those artworks during which I cried while creating. As soon as I wrapped that Goffin’s little wing around her shoulder, I cried. When I moved his eye too look up at her and her at him, I cried. It just brought back so many memories of the Goffin Cockatoo that I once had as a companion. I miss him so. And now I’m starting to tear up once again. This piece just stirs up so many memories for me of love and loss. 

The shirt of the girl is dynamic cloth and I tried to calculate it in a way that made it look like the Goffin was clutching her shirt. It worked! I also used Poser’s morph tools to further manipulate the shirt and smooth it out after calculating the dynamic cloth in the Cloth Room. I rendered the scene in Superfly with depth of field. I did very little in postwork. I fixed a few little render errors on the Goffin with the heal brush in Photoshop and then played with the colors and contrast of the image using adjustment layers.
